There are 5 avenues, and in this ultrasound blog we are on #4.
#1 is PRAYING BOLDLY (a posture and a mindset of crying out to God).
#2 is preaching and teaching Jesus-centered messages.
#3 is True Worship – The time is coming, indeed its now, when TRUE WORSHIPPERS will worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way.
#4 is Authentic Community
The Bible teaches us that it is the Gospel that forms Community. Look at Acts 16:12-24.
See, this little growing church in Philippi was now home to people like
-Lydia, a wealthy upscale businesswoman whose material success could never satisfy her
-A slave girl with a deep and wounded past
-A hard-nosed jailer and his family
The GOSPEL by its very nature forms community…
So we as Believers have –
-Different careers -Different political viewpoints -Different socio-economic status
-Different cultural background -Even different life situations…
YET, we are still drawn together in the Body He calls the Church.
Jesus is the common ground. You may have nothing at all in common with a person, but if you both have Jesus, then you have everything in common. Sometimes our past, our experiences, our fears, our insecurities and many other things keep us from getting to know others authentically.
Especially those who are different from us…
What Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said long ago is true in many churches today.
He said, “We must face the sad fact that at the eleven o’ clock hour on Sunday morning when we stand to sing, we stand in the most segregated hour in America.
While the other days of the week –
-Our kids play on the same sports team -We eat at the same restaurants -We live next to each other
-We shop at the same stores -We work side by side in our jobs -Our kids go to the same school
…But on Sundays we SPLIT UP and worship God separately…
This is not how God intended it to be:
“There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28
The heartbeat of Vertical Community Church is to be a multi-cultural church that understands that it is the Gospel that is forming our Vertical Community.
And as the Gospel forms Vertical Community, it is our heartbeat to be a church that is Authentic in Community with people from every walk of life. It is God’s desire for us to be a people that truly live out the love of Jesus authentically (I John 4:20). Jesus Himself even prayed for UNITY among the believers and part of being UNIFIED is laying down our pride and being authentic with one another no matter where we come from, our last name or the title we have by that name, the color of our skin, the money in our bank account, the neighborhood we live in, or the school our kids go to, etc. “For we are all one in Christ Jesus.”
John 17:21 says “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you.”
And in that Gospel forming Community, it is God’s design for us to be deeply connected with one another…
We would love for you to pray about joining us in being a multi-cultural church that understands that it is the Gospel that forms our Authentic Community.
